Tour Program
+ Day 1 - Helsinki
Your Best of Lapland tour begins with your arrival in Helsinki and check in at one of Helsinki’s most comfortable central hotels. The afternoon and evening are at your leisure to relax or explore this contemporary Nordic city.
– Day 2 - Santa Claus Train to Lapland
Meet at 8am for breakfast in your hotel. Then you will embark at 11.00 am on a Panoramic Tour of Helsinki. This fully guided tour encompasses the historical centre of the city as well as the City Hall, Presidential Palace, Senate Square, Parliament Building, diplomatic headquarters, Finlandia Hall and the Uspenkiy Cathedral.
In the evening, you will board the overnight train for departure to Rovaniemi, Lapland.
+ Day 3 - Rovaniemi
Your train will make its arrival in Rovaniemi in the heart of Lapland in the morning. After transfer from the station to the hotel, you will be checked in. This day is at your leisure to explore this capital city of Finland’s north.
In the evening you will meet for the Aurora Borealis Adventure. Transported by car to the Lappish wilderness, walk through the snowy landscape to the banks of the river to a spot perfect for capturing the Northern Lights. Soak up the peaceful, pristine atmosphere as you patiently await the random theatrical performance of nature at its best. Enjoy fried sausages by the campfire, before transferring back to your hotel by car.
– Day 4 - Travel Up to the North. Observe the Sky from a Glass Igloo
Following a hearty northern breakfast in your hotel, a day of magic begins in the morning when you depart for the Santa Claus Safari. Be transported to a reindeer farm where you will become informed about traditional Lappish culture and reindeer husbandry. Embark on a reindeer ride and attend a ceremonial crossing of the Arctic Circle. After this, transfer by car to the renowned Rovaniemi Santa Claus Village to meet Santa himself, send postcards from the North Pole post office, and relax in the cosy restaurant for a delicious Lappish lunch. You will also receive a Diploma for crossing the Arctic Circle.
You will then be transferred back to your hotel to prepare for departure to glass igloo resort by bus (150 km) in the afternoon. Hotel check in is , followed by dinner locally. The village where you will stay offers you a unique opportunity to see northern lights.
– Day 5 - Husky Ride and Other Activities in a Glass Igloo Resort
Take breakfast in your hotel. You will be collected at 10:00 by the husky farmer for an invigorating two-hour husky safari. For this winter safari you will be provided with warm thermal clothing. Then meet the happy, excited, and friendly husky dogs that can’t wait to take you on a sledge for a speedy adventure! You will be given instruction on how to turn, drive, and stop. With two persons to a sledge there is plenty of time to take turns mustering the dogs. After the ride is over, you will refresh with coffee and learn about the life of a husky dog in Lapland
In the evening you will be treated to a Finnish dinner.
A Cozy Sleigh Ride Under the Northern Lights in Lapland
Imagine gliding through a quiet, snow-covered forest, wrapped in warmth as two strong Finnhorses pull your wooden sleigh through the Arctic night. Above you, the sky shimmers with stars—if you’re lucky, the Northern Lights might put on a dazzling show.
Your adventure begins at the horse stables, where you’ll be dressed in thermal clothing to keep you warm. As we ride deeper into the winter wilderness, the only sounds are the crunch of snow and the soft jingle of sleigh bells. Halfway through, we’ll pause to take in the breathtaking surroundings, sip on hot berry juice, and share stories about Lapland’s culture and nature.
Whether the Aurora Borealis dances above or the peaceful beauty of Lapland surrounds you, this sleigh ride is pure winter magic.
– Day 6 - Travel Even More Up to the North
Breakfast early in your hotel before departing by to Ivalo / Inari in the morning. Our driver will pick you up from the reception of the resort. You’ll then have a private transfer to your next stop, Ivalo / Inari, which happens to be the northernmost point of your trip.
Inari is the cultural heart of Lapland’s north, and we are very excited to add this exceptional and remote destination to our fabulous travel packages for the first time. Here you will step deeply into the culture and atmosphere of traditional Lapland and the indigenous Sami people – a truly unique experience. We guarantee you will always remember the magic of Inari.
in the afternoon you will experience charming local Lappish hospitality as you are welcomed as a guest into a local Inari resident’s home. Your hostess, Tuula, lives in the remote wilderness by the Lake Muddus with her reindeer; you will meet and have the opportunity to feed this friendly herd. Learn the interesting history of Tuula’s home as well as a glimpse of what life is life there today. You will also observe the traditional process of creating Sami fur boots. (This safari could be changed to another one). The Best of Lapland tour will continue the next day in Inari.
– Day 7 - Returning to the South of Lapland
After breakfast in your hotel you will visit Siida, which is the heart of the Sami area of Finland. There is no more in depth way to gain a glimpse of Sami culture and the diversity of Lapland’s nature. Here the Nature Centre of Metsahallitus and the National Museum of the Finnish Sami collaborate to offer exciting exhibitions showcasing the region’s art, culture, and natural environment. There is a restaurant onsite.
Then you will depart by bus to Rovaniemi.
Your overnight train to return to Helsinki departs Rovaniemi after 8pm.
+ Day 8 - Welcome Back to Helsinki
You’ll reach Helsinki in the early hours, marking the end of your tour. A driver will greet you at the train station to facilitate your airport transfer. If your flight isn’t until the afternoon, feel free to relax in the lobby of a nearby hotel. We’ll ensure your transfer aligns with your flight timings.
